Our personality is our core demonstration to the outside world, of our beliefs, values and intelligence. The things that are important to us, or we feel strongly about guide our decision making process more than any another factor in our lives. To not understand the personality, is to not understand the person.

Fortunately, there are many tools available to help build this understanding of one's self or for use within teams and performance management in organisations. The personality profiling tools we use have all been psychometrically validated and accredited by the British Psychological Society.

Ability tests allow us to understand a specific set of capabilities relating to various job aspects such as problem solving, communication effectivess to report writing. Ability tests are used most often to assess critical skills and traits that are important in successfully fullfilling a job requirement. For example, management accountants would need a high degree of numeracy and a researcher may need good literacy.

There are also tests that can identify an individual's likely potential for senior management or highlight relevant career paths based on the way a test is completed. We can help you identify the right tests to use, or even, whether you really need to use a test.

It takes more than an ounce of courage to open yourself to others opinions of you, however, done in the right way, it can make a huge difference both personally and professionally.

Nearly all of our success in organisational life is based on how well we manage what we do for the people we do it for. Those relationships can either make things great, easy and effortless. Or they can make them painful, stressful and something to avoid.

Understanding how we are seen by others, gives us a great starting point from which to explore tactics to deploy that can improve how we are seen by others.

Myers Briggs vs Discovery Insights

MBTI and DISC have been around for a long time and are both used in many countries. Both use the same underlying personality theory from Carl Jung, the Swiss Psychologist. However, they apply it in different ways which can divide opinions on their use.

Personally we think both are great but our own view is that MBTI is better suited to one-to-one coaching or mentoring, where the issues spill into homelife. We think DISC works better in groups and corporate situations due to it's ease of understanding and it's focus on the difference between the natural you and the variation of you that you take to work.

Strengths Deployment Inventory

This is one of our favourite tools and not used half as much as it should be. It's based on "Relationship Awareness Theory" which has been around since the 1950s. What we love about this tool is that it is super easy to remember as it involves colours and only three of them. For fast paced corporate folks, that's a winner right there.

The profile report itself looks at what your motives are when things are going well and in contrast when we're under pressure or stress. This is indicated by a line showing the level of shift in these two situations. The tool also provides great insight into managing others and relationships by "borrowing behaviour" from other types to enhance relationships.
